Students participating in Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics have the opportunity to take a research course focusing on teaching and learning mathematics. As part of that course, they will participate in the AMMASING program and have further opportunities to engage in explorations of mathematics and teaching throughout the school year.
The 2012-2013 Summer Ventures participants receive a number of benefits, including:
- Opportunities to explore mathematics in new ways
- Opportunities to consider the work of teaching and research questions about how people learn mathematics
- Free membership in the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM)
- Registration and participation in the NCCTM Annual Conference, the largest gathering of mathematics teachers in the state, and one of the largest in the country
- A $400 stipend for participation in all activities
